What household detergents can I use?As detergents are heavily diluted with water, normal cleaners are suitable. Undiluted bleach would be the only exception.
What does the system look like?Normally the chamber is below ground. On top you see a compost bin for garbage disposal and a 150mm vent pipe which protrudes into the air 4 metres. This vent pipe may be attached to the house.
How do I go about getting a permit to install a system?A & A Worm Farm Waste Systems apply to Council on your behalf for the permit. Any queries from Council are handled by us. No. Virtually no maintenance. The system is designed to be self cleaning. In seven years we have never de-sludged one chamber.
What are the service requirements and costs? As part of our approval conditions, we conduct a service call at 6 months, 18 months and each subsequent 2 years.
What does the system cost to run?If your site is hilly, the cost is zero. If your site is flat, a small sump pump will switch on for 60 seconds only when required. This is equivalent to switching on a 100 watt light globe for 60 seconds. If you have a holiday house or you are away on holidays, running costs are also zero when the system is not in use.
What happens if I go away for extended periods of time? These systems are ideal for situations such as holiday houses etc or if you take an extended holiday. The worm population will survive very well with periodic use. Worm eggs lay dormant if the system is not used for extended periods. They hatch once the system is used again.
